Deep Fried Sturgeon

Well, my bentos may have lacked inspiration lately:

...but dinner is another story. Not that I can really claim any credit for the idea... it was my husband's. He wanted to serve his mom deep fried sturgeon for mother's day.

So we cut up the fish, dipped the pieces in an egg/soy milk wash and then shook them around in a Ziplock with the breading (which was a pre-seasoned mix we bought in the seafood section). We popped them into our little deep fryer, and about ten minutes later, we emptied the basket onto paper towels. Here's the result:

Finger food... yum!

Now that's different. Where does one even get sturgeon?

We were lucky enough to know a fisherman who graciously gave us some. But I guess you can buy it somewhere around here, too. Not sure where.

If you live in the Pacific Northwest you can fish for sturgeon and keep them if they are between 42 and 60 inches. My husband caught one. It is delicious. I'm browsing recipes other than a skillet and came across your blog. I'm going to try the deep fryer. Thank you! -Kris in Eugene, OR
